How to load money into an Equity Prepaid Card

A prepaid card is a card designed to offer a convenient means of making payments for people who prefer not to carry cash.

In Kenya they are commonly used to shop,pay bus fare and withdrawals from ATM s.The most popular cards are visa and MasterCard branded cards and they are distributed by Nation Media agents (NationHela) ,Nakumatt,Equity Bank,I&M Bank ,Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Bank of Africa..

In order to use a prepaid card, one must acquire it from a licensed issuer and then load some money into the card.

Procedure of loading money into an Equity Bank prepaid card using Equitel:

There are quite number of options you have in terms of loading money in your prepaid card. A person can either load money from an Equity bank agent or through Mpesa . The most convenient method is through your phone ,that is ,using your Equitel line. The following are the steps to be  followed to load money;

  1. Go to your phone menu
  2. Select My money
  3. Select Send /pay
  4. Choose your preferred Equity account (account must have money)
  5. Choose pay bill
  6. Enter business number which is 763763
  7. Enter prepaid card account number which is normally the 15 digits on your prepaid card.
  8. Enter the amount you want to transfer/load
  9. After confirming the transaction, you can now enter your PIN and wait for the transaction to be completed.

Procedure of loading money into an Equity Bank prepaid card using MPESA:

  1. Go to Mpesa Menu from your phone
  2. Select Lipa na Mpesa option
  3. Select pay bill
  4. Enter business number as 763763
  5. Enter the  account number which is normally the 15 digits on your prepaid card.
  6. Enter the amount you want to transfer/load
  7. Enter your Mpesa PIN
  8. Submit your request and wait for a confirmation SMS.

 

Kindly note that you can only check the card balance from any Equity Agent or an ATM
